September Favourites 2014

Hello my Leaves and welcome to September's Favourites.

I hope you are all having a particularly lovely Sunday! I know I am as today is the day I Level (grow) Up :) I will have to go out and seek all the 'About Me' places on the Internet and let them know that I am yet another year away from youth! I don't mind growing up that much, I just see it as another tick box for another year survived, which with my clumsiness and afraid-of-almost-everything mindset, is something to celebrate!

I have celebrated by spending time with friends and family and eating lots of food... I hear I'm at the age where metabolisms start to slow down too so I will have to make sure I don't overindulge too often!

Anyway, you didn't click this post to hear about someone growing older, hopefully you clicked to see my September Favourites and here they are!

1. My Room

I know I have been ramming this post on the Internet at every opportunity but I am so proud of how my room has turned out! The colours make it feel very refreshing and cosy and it's as though I am in an indoor forest! I have considered taking it a step further and making a green canopy for the ceiling but that is still a thought instead of a reality! My purse needs some time to recover before I go opening it again! My room is an expression of me, too. I've lived in rented accommodation for so long that it feels wonderful to be able to decorate and actually paint walls! Of course, as this is technically my mum's house I did ask for her permission first, please don't go painting your rooms without the house owners permission xD

2. Eat Natural Bars

These Eat Natural bars were a new find for me this month despite them being available for ages! I had been looking for a elevenses snack for a while and this bar with the Almonds and Apricots really does the trick! The almonds fill me up and the apricots fool me into thinking it is far healthier than it probably is ^^ I still believe it to be a better option to chocolate bars though!

3. Unity for Remembrance Day

I don't know about those of you in other countries but I love the feeling when residents of your country unite for a mutual cause. There has been a ginormous pottery/ceramic poppy planting at the tower of London this year in memory of WWI and I love seeing how everyone has come together. I don't own any photos of this so I recommend that you click here to learn more about the event and see pictures of just how many poppies have been planted to date. A lot of my colleagues have volunteered to plant poppies and the sheer volume is a very overwhelming sight. If you are visiting London at any point I strongly recommend viewing this installation!

4. Wraps (of any variety)

The last of my favourites for September has to be wraps and tortillas. I have been slightly obsessed this month with making my own wraps of any variety and have been saving quite some money by making them at home, Subway I still love you but you're an expensive mistress to be frequented regularly! My favourite wrap combinations are Tuna Salad (with lettuce, tomato, pepper, cucumber and light mayo) and Cheese and Beetroot (sometimes with a bit of houmous :P). Do you have any favourite sandwich/wrap combinations?

Book Club

So, this month's book was 'The Kingmaker's Daughter' by Philippa Gregory. I have to say that this book took me some time to get into, especially as it's been a busy month, but I'm so glad I persevered with this book. It follows Anne Neville, the daughter of the Earl of Warwick, as her father, dubbed the 'Kingmaker' continues of his ambition to place his family as close to the throne of England as possible, if not on it. As with Philippa's previous books, I found myself drawn to little Anne as she grows up and really feel her character as she faces a lot peaks and troughs in her life. I feel that Philippa's books always make me wish I had listened more in history lessons as all this competition and drama around the monarchy is given an extra touch. I also love that this book is based on the War of the Roses which, although being born and raised in Lancashire, isn't something I heard a lot about. Lancaster and York universities' to this day hold a competition of different sports each year yet not a lot is mentioned about the history. Or, if it is mentioned, it gets lost in the thirst for competition.

Next Month's book will be 'Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman' by Haruki Murakami. If you want to join in then the book can be found here and it will be reviewed in October's Favourites.

Anyway that's a wrap *chuckles* for this months favourites. What have you fallen in love with this month? Let me know on twitter @chezautumn I'm in a bit of a loop in the 30's and getting to see your names (proof of existence) on Twitter will make me extra smiley :)

I hope you enjoyed September Inspiration and are all looking forward to October's Soul, Mind & Body posts!

Weekly Update | 26/09/2014

Hello my Leaves and Happy Friday!

Typing the 26th September was horrible today, I can't believe how fast this month has gone?! Can you believe that I started this blog in July! If time could slow down a touch, that would be great!

My week has been relatively quiet. I went out for a meal at Frankie & Benny's with my colleagues on Thursday as it is my birthday this weekend. We had a fantastic time and the food was scrummy! I feel that I need to get back into the routine of eating a little more cleanly after this week though! I always find excuses to eat unhealthily! Frankie & Benny's is one of my favourite go-to restaurants as it's where I celebrated a lot of my Birthdays when I lived in Lancashire so it was very strange to be eating in a similarly laid out restaurant with different people!

I had a friend to visit last weekend from Lancashire and it was lovely to see a familiar face! I haven't seen any of my Northern friends since July and it really made me miss the North when I heard the accent again. We went shopping and I got to show them where I live and work which was strange but made me realise how comfortable and settled I had become. We also decided to have a Sherlock Holmes (Season 1 - 3) marathon too as it was an early birthday gift and we used to always watch the episodes together. On the last day we went to a water activity centre and went rowing! My arms have never been so sore but I had a great time and managed to get lots of photos for a future post :)

I know, I know, I really know how to pull off the life jacket look ^^
& my glasses are transition lenses, I'm not completely bonkers!

In other news my love for Netflix has grown again! I finally finished all four seasons of Lost Girl, thinking I now had my life back, to discover that 'The Originals' has now been added *sighs*. I don't know how they do it but Netflix always seem to add something I want to watch the minute I can feel freedom in my grasp! :) I guess it gives me more reason to have duvet days though and I enjoy unwinding to Netflix at night as part of my after work routine :) Goodness only knows what they will add next!

I've finally gotten my act together and have made my plan for October's theme. Drum roll please....October's theme is:

Soul, Mind & Body

I hope you're looking forward to it as much as me :P

So, how has your week been? Do you have anything exciting planned for the weekend and next week? Let me know on twitter @chezautumn :)

Inspiration September | Autumn Nails

Hello my Leaves, how are you today? :)

For the final Inspiration September post (it's September Favourites on Sunday) I thought I would show you one of the ways that I'm celebrating Autumn, my nails!!

I know my nails need reshaping and sorting out buuut the flowers distract you :P

So, should you wish to do them yourself, here's my steps.

You will need:

Nail Varnishes, Clear Varnish, Cling Film & A Bobby Pin

Step One: Choose your colours, I went for 'Prima Ballerina' by Leighton Denny and 'Fenchurch Street', 'Hampstead Gardens' and 'Holland Park Avenue' by Nails Inc. :)

Step Two: Coat four nails in your palest colour and then select your main flower colour for your ring finger/or any finger.

Step Three: Blob (that's a technical term, honest!) your colours onto some folded cling film.

Step Four: With a bobby pin dot five dots into a circle.

Step Five: Repeat the process for your other nails and add a dot in the middle to be a centre for your flowers.

Step Six: Finish with a top coat et voila! (The picture below is without the ring finger highlighted)

If you do try out these Autumnal Nails then tag me on twitter to share your creations :D You could also add leaves to the design if you wanted, I ran out of space on my nails.

Inspiration September | My Bedroom (After)

Hello my leaves, how are you this Sunday?

I am so happy to be able to show you this today :) My room down south is complete :) yippee!

It's taken me some time to do as I work full time but I hope you're as happy with the result as I am xD

Wall One

Ok, so maybe it's not completely finished yet as I need to find some curtains but that could take months knowing my indecision xD The colour of this wall is called Autumn Grove which I thought was appropriate :) It turns to a nice mossy colour at night and in the day has dappled patterns on it with the light through the trees outside. Houdini is in the corner next to the wardrobes so he gets the fresh air whilst still being hidden in the shade. There have been a few times so far where he climbs up to stare at the window, looking for predators,  but he's content to go about his business as usual :)

Wall Two

Looking at the difference between the walls like this is so strange, I'd forgotten that I had changed the layout of my bed, it was so long ago. I love the triptych I have on the wall of an autumn sunset that was painted by a friend a few years ago, this photo does it no justice. I replaced my old, well travelled, pine bed too with the Darla double bed from Argos. The bedding was from TKMaxx, you can get some great bargains on Egyptian Cotton there. On the bed I have my pillows (featured in last Sundays post) and a throw from Ikea which follows on the mossy, cosy feel.

Wall Three

The final wall, unless you count the wardrobes which haven't changed at all. The colour is Norwegian Wood and I think it goes well with the green without looking too akin to a chocolate lime ^^ One thing I learnt from decorating this wall is that plasterboard and floating shelves are an absolute nightmare and that it will influence me to change from wanting two shelves to one xD I've already shown you my desk but now you can see how it all looks together :)

Sooo... what do you guys and gals think? :) Does it come close to the drawings I did a while back?

Maybe not, as I didn't paint a tree but there's still time :) I even almost got the cushions right xD

There's a few more little details I want to do but they're all long term ideas :) Do you have any suggestions for me? My next project is to sort out the mess that I try vainly to call a wardrobe :)

Weekly Update | 19/09/2014

Hello my leaves and how are you today?

Today has been great as I am only working for a four day week! It's so nice to know that I have a three day weekend! To celebrate I'm having a friend visit from where I  used to live so I get to show them my new area and what it has to offer :)

Also, drum roll please! Autumn Ramblings has hit 1000 views!! So THANK YOU all for taking the time to read my ramblings! my profile has also just hit 5000 views on google too! It's a week of milestones! But seriously, I woke up on Tuesday morning to find that I'd had a surge of views in France and then on Wednesday morning it was a surge in Turkey! I hope it's not a fluke and that you guys are genuinely visiting my blog :P ever the pessimist...

I'm very excited for the upcoming posts you guys! Next week's posts will include a nail tutorial (which I am in love with!) and a very special surprise for this Sunday's post! I hope you enjoy the posts as much as I did, I think it rounds off Inspiration September quite nicely!

Octobers Theme - I haven't quite decided on October's theme yet as I have a mismatch of topics but none that I could make a month of! Maybe I'll do a mismatch instead of a theme? What are your opinions on this?

I don't know if you follow me on twitter @chezautumn but you may have noticed that I've discovered that YesStyle now have an app for the phone! As yet it doesn't show in currency other than USD BUT it has given me the opportunity to save and favourite things whilst I'm out which I can then review when I'm back home! I've submitted my order so that should be a post for you in October :) YesStyle have also followed me on twitter xD and considering the number of followers I have on there it's a big deal to me! I hope they like what I write about their products... Honesty is always the best policy in my opinion anyway :)

GBBO - I'm so sad to say Kate go! I honestly wouldn't be able tot make any kind of pastry dish though so all credit to the contestants on getting so far! I also loved that the technical exercise was something that none of them had heard of, it really levelled the playing field for that round.

Lost Girl - Sooo I've made it on to season four of lost girl, I really don't want to think about how much of my life has been spent watching this in the last two weeks xD Do you have any recommendations of other, easy watching programmes?

As you may have seen on twitter, I am making another effort to get back to the figure I used to be! I've gained quite a lot of weight this year, for me, and I want to try and shed some of it. I always say that it isn't about the numbers but how you feel. In this instance I know how I feel at my target number which is why I'm aiming for it. I will still have a healthy BMI and I'm not looking to crash diet but instead make lifestyle changes to rescue the chance of me putting the weight back on after.

Anyhoo, enjoy your weekend I shall catch up with you all next week :)

Inspiration September | Houzz Obsession

Hello my Leaves and Happy Hump Day!

I love Wednesdays! Monday and Tuesday always feel like the week is never going to end but, when I reach Wednesday, I realise just how fast Monday and Tuesday were! Is it the same for you?

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

I wanted to have a little confession for today's post. I have an obsession with Houzz. You probably haven't heard of it and therefore don't know how easily it's hooks you and get a grip to lure you into the small hours without you seeing the time pass. *deep breaths*

Houzz is an app/website that contains pictures and newsletters that are posted by users and the Houzz team. Sounds dodgy... The pictures are of houses and rooms and gardens, sounding better! You basically are given an array of images and you can view where items were purchased if you like them and you can also gain inspiration for your own home. I particularly love the newsletters that cater for making a small space seem a lot bigger with nifty storage solutions! They also show you unusual spaces to live, how to get the perfect garden kitchen, colour schemes by themes and so on and so forth, ooh I need to watch Shrek, (+1 if you get the reference :P).

I know what you're thinking, how on earth does this become addictive? One-ish word: Ideabook. You can save the photos that you like into your own area and you can create folders, such as for each room of your house, or by colour scheme, garden layout, you name it, it can be done! It has led me to create my very own collage of my dream, future, home. To the point were I stand in a shop and think 'ooh that's what I'm looking for...' and then have to remind myself that this room and house doesn't exist yet so I don't need to buy things for it.....

I'm not going to show you pictures as I'm not sure where harmless sharing ends and copyright begins so instead I urge you to ensure you have plenty of time to spare and go visit this site! It has become a ritual for me to check new photos as part of my night time routine but I really don't recommend it unless you want to be shouting out house related things in your sleep :P

Let me know what you think!

Inspiration September | Bed Cushions

Hello my leaves! How are you all today?

I decided to do another craft project for today's post, I hope you don't mind! My bed has been looking very bare recently so I decided to purchase some cushions for it. Sadly, the patterns that were available wouldn't suit my room but I had a moment of inspiration as I walked past a fabric shop, why not make my own?!

So here it is, the somewhat jumbled and probably not-the-right-way-to-make-cushions post on how I made my bed cushions :)

Step One: Select your fabrics, I went for ones that were Forrest colours as I like the outdoors. I also looked for fabrics that didn't stretch too much as they would be harder to sew and harder to keep in shape! I also de-covered the pillows, they were an amusing assortment of not so sharp shapes :)

Step Two: Measure each cushion from seam to seam, you may need to check that the reverse is the same if you have dysfunctional cushions as I did! Using tailors chalk, draw the shape onto the fabric and give and allowance for the seam, I was generous and gave an inch perimeter. You also want to allow extra space on one side as this will be the inner cover to seal your cushion in! I went for just under half of the length to be certain it would be covered. Make two of these pieces, I layered my fabric prior to cutting and pinned it to prevent the fabric shifting whilst cutting.

Step Three: Place the two pieces of fabric together with your patterned sides touching each other, the cushions will be sewn inside out. Fold over the Inner cushion fabric and pin down all the perimeters EXCEPT the one of the Inner fold! I then drew a line in tailors chalk to give myself a guide whilst sewing.

Step Four: With my guide line in place I changed the pins direction so that I could sew over the two pieces of material without them moving around. If you're new to sewing I strongly advise this step.

Sew. Sew. Sew.

Step Five: After sewing, remove the pins and trim the seams so that they won't bulge once the cushions are turned inside out.

Step Six: Turn the cushions inside out and make sure to push the corners out to give a nice pointy edge! Whilst sewing I ran a little over each edge to ensure there was a neat corner!

Step Seven: If you need to you can add buttons between the inner fold and the back of your material. I only had this problem with my first cushion for some reason, likely I mis-measured the width, so I added a press stud to keep it together. :)

Et Voila! I repeated this process for another four cushions and I can definitely advocate that practice makes slightly more perfect cushions :P

Have you been inspired to make anything this September? Let me know what you've made in the comments :) Also, any constructive comments on improving my cushion making method are gladly received :D

Weekly Update | 12/09/2014

Good Day my Leaves,

How are you today? :)

With all this talk about Inspiration and Motivation I have decided that I’m going to put  more effort into trying things that I always seem to put off doing. You may have noticed on my YouTube channel that there is currently a pitiful amount of poor quality videos on there. So, with that in mind, I am going to make more of an effort into producing videos. It’s something I enjoy doing and I want to learn how to edit them to a better standard. Maybe I will do a video of my work wardrobe so that you can see everything without having to scroll through a lot of pictures! I don’t know how long it will take to make but I have the motivation and I’m going to take advantage of it! :)

This week has been very busy and it has taken me ages to catch up on sleep!

Saturday and Sunday were spent painting my bedroom and it now looks much closer to how I have pictured it in my mind. I just need to find the right bed and sort out all the furnishings before I show it to you :)

The rest of the week has been spent at work and also watching Lost Girl on Netflix (I always seem to get hooked onto TV shows and then have to binge watch them!) It has reduced my productive streak but at the same time it has been the perfect way to unwind after work!

I also had an opticians appointment this week and have been told that despite sight issues I have very healthy eyes! I should be collecting my new glasses this weekend and I always feel like a kid when I put them on! It makes me realise just how bad my eyesight was despite me thinking that I could see everything!

On a different note, I’ve had a bit of homesickness for the North this week! Although I feel like I’m settling in OK, I still feel like I should be around my friends and catching up with them! I see things I want to do but I haven’t quite got the relationships down South yet to go and do them! I must be more confident!

I loved the response I got from my Youtuber Inspiration post on Wednesday! I wonder if we can get the Youtubers to see it xD

Anyway I shall leave you to your Friday!

Inspiration September | Youtubers

Hello my leaves, how is your Wednesday? I can't believe it is hump day again already! September is moving fast!

As promised in my 'What inspires me?' blog, here is my list of Youtube inspirations and motivations! It was only in writing this post that I realised just how many people I follow on Youtube to motivate me and there are so many I haven't included! Here are my own top choices, in no particular order.

Jacks Gap/Jack and Finn Harries
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Jack and Finn spend such a long time making their videos that you can see the love and labour behind each video that they produce. They take such a different  view on events too that I always have to remember that there are other points of view to each experience. I would definitely recommend that you watch their journey through India if you haven't already!
My message to you: Keep up the hard work Jack, Finn and Team! Your video's are truly amazing and I would happily wait months for each video. Don't put so much stress and pressure on yourselves though, it's nice to remind us that we are all human and to be human is to err!

Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: This woman manages to brighten up every single Wednesday/Thursday for me :) It doesn't matter what mood I'm in when I click play, I'm pretty much guaranteed to be crying with laughter by the end :) Jenna takes a very sarcastic approach to quite a few of her videos and like to imitate what different types of people are like. Her 'what your bra says about you' video is pretty funny as are her everyday views on how people accomplish small tasks like getting ready and going about their day :)
My message to you: Jenna, I can honestly say I haven't found another person like you! When life throws you lemons, make unicorns :D I've followed your videos through so many roller coaster times but you've always been there to cheer the rest of us on, thank you.

Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: This guy was basically self taught to play the drums and has so much skill and natural talent it's crazy! Especially when you add in his amazing people skills and quick wit! I recommend that you check out his band 'Ventura Lights' they've done some amazing pieces so far and your support will make a big difference for them!
My message to you: Don't stop. I don't think you would let yourself stop doing something you love either but if you need to hear it elsewhere... The look of bliss when you're playing always motivates to keep doing what I love and it reminds me that practice makes perfect :)
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: This mans take on the news is amazing. He manages to add his own twist and keep even the most dull of news seem alive and interesting to his audience. He juggles raising a little one, running different channels and posts regular news updates whilst remaining impartial-ish. Granted there are times when he just says what everyone is thinking but it's a welcome breath of fresh air to the TV news channels.
My message to you: I wish I had your viewpoint on life. I find that I dwell on the little details whereas you seem able to tackle things when they arise instead of worrying other things that may never be. Your little addition to the family is beyond adorable and I truly believe, from what I see of your personality, that you will make a great, all rounded parent.

Zoella/Zoe Sugg
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Probably the youtuber I feel the most akin to. I'm not saying I know exactly who Zoe is as I only see a selective snippet of her life but, from what I have seen, I see a determined person who wants the best for everyone despite obstacles. Zoe has a book due out soon and has accomplished so much both as a blogger and a Youtuber.
My message to you: I don't know where to start. I love your daily vlog stints and that's what initially brought me to your channel as I don't wear make up. Having seen you struggle with inner demons (anxiety) I found that I almost had to watch to make sure you were OK and partly to prove to myself that anxiety is just a small ripple in the grand scheme of things. Your own life has motivated me to keep battling and find a way to conquer my anxiety so that it doesn't prevent me from doing the things that I want to do. We are all human and you don't have to make each video perfect. Be happy and do things for you not your viewers.
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Emma speaks her mind. Sometimes it gets her into trouble but I love that she doesn't soften her own opinions just to please viewers. Emma makes music as well as videos and performed 'The Promise' live at Summer in the City. She can take time to find motivation but her videos are worth the wait :)
My message to you: Listen to your own lyrics. You are more than capable of achieving whatever you set your mind to. Don't let other peoples opinions bring you down and keep Blackerying your way through life, it's gotten you this far!

Bubzbeauty/Lindy Ng (Nee Tsang)
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Lindy is a beauty and lifestyle vlogger who was raised in Ireland but now lives in Hong Kong with her husband, two dogs and now a baby! She accomplishes so much in her day it's phenomenal. She always manages to have the energy to get everything done and more and this always drives me to work on my blog after a full day at work.
My message to you: Breathe! Your life is constantly in motion and a nice post baby moon would be acceptable! I love the optimism that you maintain through your videos and you don't let life get in the way of what you want to do! :) I truly wish all the best for you, Tim and Isaac as well as the doggies!

Piddleass / Kaitlin Witcher
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Kate is an American who, I feel, deserves more recognition. She always portrays herself as the tag along but she is liked in her own right! She can be an absolute loony in one video and in the next she's very honest. I like that she feels comfortable being honest in her vlogs and that she isn't trying to be someone that she isn't. Kate has faced a lot of obstacles with anxiety over the last year but she doesn't let it stop her as much as she used to! She reminds me that sometimes spur of the moment decisions can be the boost you needed.
My message to you: You can do it Panda Queen! Keep taking the opportunities that you would usually shy away from. We can all see the difference warped has made and I wouldn't want you to miss things that you want to do! I know how much you love your games but stop worrying about how good it looks to us, just play and we will fall into the game with you!

Sprinkle of Glitter / Louise Pentland
Why I find them Inspiring/motivating: Louise is so comfortable on camera with who she is I love it! If she's not being mummy at home and looking after Darcy, she's off making lookbooks and videos or attending events. She appears to never stop and can keep so many balls in the air at once it's actually a little scary!
My message to you: Keep it up! You have become a lot more accepting of your humanness lately and it is coming across in your work! You have a wonderful family and I want you to make the most of Darcy whilst she's still young! Don't feel pressured by people demanding more. If you burn a candle at both ends it will die out a lot faster!

This list is by no means exhaustive and if you want to discover more youtubers and bloggers then I can happily recommend:
The SacconeJoly’s, Jim Chapman, Tanya Burr, Marcus Butler, Alfie Deyes (Pointless Blog), Marziapie, Hazel Heyes (chewingsand), Carrie Fletcher (Itswaypastmybedtime), Niomi Smart, Caspar Lee, Joe Sugg, Meytall, Pewdiepie, Tom Burns, Mimei, *pause to take another breath* Matt Watson (he’s new), BFvsGF, Syndicate, Madeyewlook, Dan and Phil, The Shaytards, Tyler Oakley, Troye Sivan, Joey Graceffa, Rachel and Jun, The Fine Bros and I suppose my own channel ChezAutumn :P

Who motivates and inspires you?  Are there any other Youtubers that you think I should watch?

Inspiration September | My Desk

Happy Wednesday my leaves how are you enjoying this hump day?

My week has flown by so far and I feel like I haven't had a weekend!

Following on from Wednesday’s post about what inspires me I wanted to go into a bit more depth about my desk. I know, how exciting ^^

My desk is where I sit for all my posts and for most of my crafts and drawing so I wanted to make it seem appealing and motivating. The amount of time I spend staring at a wall to procrastinate is phenomenal!

I’m quite a hoarder of memories and memento’s too so I wanted to find a way to incorporate them with my desk. When I moved down south I felt certain that I wanted a plain white desk and I found this one at IKEA. It's actually classed as a dressing table but I see it as a slim desk :) It has a long drawer running the whole width which can fit my laptop, notes and other bits and bobs that I always need but can never find!

On the surface there is a long piece of glass that rests on top of tiny, one side adhesive dots. These stop the glass from sliding around but also provide a perfect gap for my memories.

I have added a few things that show my achievements so far, my driving test card to remind me I can do anything if I put my mind to it and my first lottery ticket to remind me how happy I felt about being grown up enough to take part in the adult world and their activities. I have a birthday card with a hamster on which reminds me of Houdini when he was younger. This card always makes me smile and is positions to the left of my laptop so that I can see it in the corner of my eye when I am writing.

I’ve also included little notes that I’ve kept over the years. I have a list that I made with my friends yonks ago where we wrote down what we would want from our perfect partner xD This always reminds me that compromises can be good but not to lose sight of your own wishes at the same time :) Another little note was written in my coursework planner whilst I was at college. The person I sat next to was cheering me up after I got a lower than I expected score in a test.

Everything on my desk would seem insignificant to other people which is partly why I love it so much. This desk is tailored to inspire and motivate me and no one has one like it. I’ve even scattered cut outs of leaves in Autumnal colours to remind me of autumn and to take a deep breathe if I feel frustrated.

Once my room is painted I’m going to hang my mirror over my desk so that I don’t stare at a wall but at myself and outside. Hopefully it will stop me from imagining pictures and scribbles on the wall!

Do you have a little pocket or area of motivation? I’ve seen people having a wall dedicated to photos which I would like to imitate one day! I’m tempted to buy a map and colour in countries that have had views on my blog xD That would be an additional motivator for me to keep doing what I enjoy and would nudge me to stick to my time frames and deadlines!

Weekly Update | 05/09/2014

Hello my leaves, how has your week been?

We're officially in Autumn! I know the leaves haven't changed overnight etc but I'm very excited for all the change that nature is about to do! It rained the entire day on Monday xD I think the land around me was very grateful as it has still been warm and dry down south with only a few showers here and there.

I don't quite know how but I've somehow managed to fall behind in my blog schedule so I'm going to try and get ahead again over the weekend as I hate leaving things to the last minute, the quality is poor enough as it is :P

My week has been quite eventful but I shall start from the beginning :)

Friday Night - After the weekly update went live. The BBC have announced that the UK is now at 'severe' on the Terrorism Threat Scale. Whilst this makes me concerned, I'm glad that the government are being honest (more honest). There have been times were people have kept their cards close to their chests, so as not to scare people, but it led to people being less vigilant and increased the chances of bad things happening. At least, by announcing it, this way people are more vigilant and wary of mysterious, abandoned items and more observant of people's behaviour.

Saturday - I went to B & Q and chose my colours for my room! Going to start painting this weekend (6th and 7th) so I'm very happy that all I need to do now is prep the walls! I also decided to buy the 4th season of Covert Affairs so a lot of the day was spent cuddled up with my duvet watching the episodes like an addict...

Sunday - I decided that I would need to be a little more productive with my weekend whilst watching CA so I started to get the shapes of material needed to make my bed scatter cushions (blog will follow). The only downside of watching CA at the same time is that I kept forgetting to take photos of the process but I hopefully have enough to form cohesive steps for you all :)
Sunday night was spent feeling very rough as I hadn't been paying attention to myself whilst watching CA and making cushions so I ended up getting quite dehydrated and shaky :/ Felt fine after a few pints of water though and went to bed feeling like my normal self.
Sunday was also the night that the photos of celebrities were leaked online. I was horrified that people can find pleasure in gaining access to private photos but at the same time I'm relieved that I'm not the only person feeling this way! So many people have voiced their disapproval over the invasion of privacy.

Monday - Nightmare. I don't know how else to phrase it. My morning started with a massive panic attack before I left the house, to the point were I was struggling to focus on whether I was genuinely ill from the night before or just having a panic attack. I managed to get to work on time and my colleagues were none the wiser. The after waves were a good three hours long and it was only at lunch that I felt it begin to ebb. Not a good day. I came home, got into my comfiest pyjamas and decided to watch youtube videos until I felt normal (me) again.  After talking it through I think my anxiety was about Tuesday as we were going to have a big long meeting in a small room with lots of people and my anxiety was rising. I decided that I would try to get a space next to a door and take a bottled drink to work with me as my distraction.

Tuesday - Well I'm glad the day is over! The meeting wasn't so bad as we were split into teams for the afternoon workshops and I managed to get an aisle seat for the morning talks! I literally came home and got into my pyjamas xD

Wednesday - I had more meetings today but they were fine. They've definitely taught me that I need to work on my communication as I'm too quiet when I raise a point and I then struggle to communicate said point effectively!

Thursday - I can't believe how many of you read last nights blog! :) I'm very happy and proud of all of you :D Also, I've caught up on GBBO from yesterday! I think I'm rooting for Team Martha and Team Richard as they both seem to have an affinity for baking though Chetna certainly knows how to add  flavour! I've been working on sunday's post as well for you all in an attempt that, by starting earlier, it will be of better quality!

Enough about me anyway! How has your week been? Are you happy to see Friday? I know a lot of you that study will be back by now so I hope you have all had a marvellous week at school/work/other :)

Inspiration September | What inspires me?

Hello my leaves,

Welcome to the first post of Inspiration September!

I decided that a good way to start this theme would be to discuss what inspires me and, who knows, maybe I will inspire you too!

When I talk about inspiration I'm also referring to motivation. If I'm not motivated then, it doesn't matter what I like, I will just never get around to it!

My Desk

I'll be showing you my desk in my next post but, to describe it, I have tried to surround it with things that inspire me. This could be achievements that I've done, Motivational quotes to help inspire and also things that make me smile so that I keep going. I try to keep my desk free of clutter so that I don't get distracted or put off from wanting to do things. The desk itself is something I have wanted for quite some time so it gives me a sense of accomplishment to be able to own it!

Raw Materials

This sounds quite strange at first but I love seeing raw materials. I can spend a good day with two pieces of material trying to work out which project will be the best use for it! Most of the time I don't get the idea until I've seen the products. This leads to me being quite a hoarder with a couple of storage boxes full of ideas and projects to start :)

Emotions & Feelings from Media

I was going to split this into two categories but they interlink too well for me to try and discuss them individually. When I look at a photo or listen to certain music I get triggers of emotions from the memories that either were created during the photo or when I listened to a song last. There are so many songs that can make me cry despite them being happy songs generally, and vice versa. I love that new music to me can also evoke the feelings of the artist and that gives me ideas too. One thing I like about people getting married is that they tend to choose their first song based on memories and you can see it on their faces as they dance. A bit of tangent there but I think you get my point.

Youtube & Blogs

Other people's creations and projects have a massive influence on what I want to do too. If someone I'm subscribed to on Youtube is having a crazy day, my mind and choice of project tends to be a bit zanier too. Seeing what other people have achieved in their posts and videos inspires me to keep doing what I enjoy. If they can accomplish projects that they initially had no skill set for, then why can't I? They prevent from giving up when I'm trying something I've never done before and I feel comforted in that it generally takes patience and lots of practice to succeed. I will be doing a post in the near future (next Wednesday, hopefully) of some of the Youtubers I follow and what I take from them.

No I'm not going to get all weepy and mushy on you! But, having said that, if my blog had had no views since it started to present day then I probably wouldn't be as motivated or inspired to do this post and any others that follow it. Knowing that people view my posts, however infrequently, makes me want to continue doing the posts. I always said from the beginning that if it amuses or helps one other person then it's worth doing. So, thank you!

My next few posts for September will be about things that have inspired me in more depth but the second half of the month will have more focus on projects that I have completed recently, hopefully this will include an 'after' tour of my room! (I bought the paint today!)

I hope you enjoy this theme and as always please subscribe, so I know you're out there :P, follow me on twitter and leave me comments telling me what has inspired/what motivates you :) I have a small enough following that I can respond to you all xP
